Eyewear as an object has been represented in various forms since 13th century. It has acted as a device to correct vision and protect the eyes, or as an icon of social status and a statement of fashion, trend and culture. Artists have used eyewear to symbolize a person's soul in art work. Eyewear can dramatically change a person's appearance, emphasize facial expression, distort physical identity and intentionally manipulate impression as people judge unfamiliar circumstances behind the lenses.
